Project Alert commences UN Spotlight Initiative to eliminate violence against women in Sokoto.

The Spotlight Initiative is so named as it brings focused attention to the issue of violence against women.

We will be delivering the component on Capacity Building for Women and Girls CSOs/Rights Groups on Referral Services for victims of SGBV (Sexual and Gender-Based Violence).

We will kickstart the project in the coming week (February 3rd – 7th, 2020) at Sokoto with advocacy visits to key stakeholders in the state, including state and non-state actors.

Also a 2- day Pre-Commencement Sensitization Workshop will take place in the state which aims at sensitizing stakeholders about the issues of SGBV and the Spotlight Project.”

Project Alert Spotlight Team commenced advocacy visits to various stakeholders in Sokoto State.

The Project Alert Spotlight Team between February 3-7, 2020, were in Sokoto to kick start the project component on building the capacity of CSOs and community groups to render quality and timely services to victims of sexual and gender-based violence. The team started off by paying advocacy visits to key stakeholders at the state level. These stakeholders included the Commissioners for Women Affairs; Social Welfare, Health; Education; the National Human Rights Commission; the Commissioner of Police; Civil Defence Corp; Commandant HISBAH; and traditional rulers. Thereafter on February 6th & 7th the project Pre-Commencement Workshop for all stakeholders took place at Dankani Hotel, Sokoto. Present were UN Women officials, UNFPA and other implementing partners.

Project Alert, will be organizing SGBV refresher trainings for its Surveillance Team members in the 15 LGAs in Lagos & Sokoto. This is to further build the capacity of the team to provide support and referrals to survivors in their communities.
