December 3 is International Day of Persons with Disability. Annually it is a day to reflect over the plight of persons with disability and promote their rights and wellbeing in all spheres of endeavor.
For us at Project Alert today, we call on state governors and state houses of assembly who are yet to enact the disability law in their states to please do so. It is a right not a favour due persons with disability in Nigeria.
We use this day to specifically call on the Cross River & Akwa-Ibom State governments to do the needful in this regards. While we encourage the Akwa-Ibom state Governor, Emmanuel Udom to append his signature on the already passed Disability Bill; we commend the Cross River State House of Assembly for their commitment to expediting action on the Cross River Disability Bill currently before them. The Public Hearing on the bill along with the Violence Against Persons Prohibition bill will be coming up on Monday December 6th in Calabar.
We thank the legislators for keeping to the commitments they made at the recently concluded legislative workshop we had with them.
