LADIES AND GENTLEMEN

We encourage you to be part of the Project Alert dream of a violence free society for our mothers, sisters and daughters.
Project Alert is a non governmental human rights organization set up in January, 1999 to advocate for an end to all forms of violence against women and render practical support services to female victims of violence. These support services include counseling, legal aid and a shelter for abused women and young girls.

PLEASE LISTEN TO THE VOICES OF THE WOMEN BELOW:

VOICE A
“It started when I was nine years old. At least that is when I can recollect that one night, as I was sleeping in my room, I felt a hand moving all over my body and trying to push up my night gown. I opened my eyes and sat up immediately, I was surprised to see my father in bed with me, telling me to shut up and not scream. When I asked him what he was doing in my bed, he said, he had heard me cry out in my sleep as if I was having a nightmare, and he had come to make sure I was okay. I did not believe him but there was nothing I could do. He told me never to tell mummy or anyone else, adding, that “daddies protect their little girls by coming to their rooms to keep them safe from night monsters” little did I know at that time, that my dad was the real monster.”

VOICE B
“…He was always threatening me saying that if I did not pack out, he will either poison me or pour acid on me. I went to the police station several times to report, but they would always tell me to go back, for it was a private matter. They only invited him once for a discussion, and he came back home to taunt me that, did I expect that he would be jailed? Months later he poured acid on me. Look at me now. I only look half human. Part of my face and body has been destroyed in the name of marriage. How can I possibly get back my life?
